Youth Social Entrepreneurship Case Study
1.Social Enterprise Insights, SEI (Sunny Lin):
A social enterprise information exchange platform for Chinese-speaking communities around the world. The platform promotes public discussion on social enterprise issues, organizes activities such as the SEI annual conference, DOIT SEI Classroom, SEI Workshop, and SEI Travel.
* Social Enterprise Insights Classroom covers topics such as finance, technology, education and agriculture, the formats of which include sharing by domestic entrepreneurs and case study sharing by senior editors.
2.Empowering Lives through Innovative Volunteerism, ELIV (Kevin Chen):
International services are provided through the ongoing volunteer relay program (poverty alleviation and adaptation to global warming). Projects include: Green Orphanages in Cambodia, Tree Planting and Desertification Prevention in Mongolia, and other programs in Bangladesh, Myanmar and India. What is special about ELIV is that a number of young people involved in the services were so inspired that they later founded their own social innovation and poverty alleviation programs.
3.Sandwishes Studio (Yi-lin Hsieh):
A social welfare organization and enterprise that provides art design and public interest planning. The studio has its origins in a project involving design and collaboration for the Happy Mount Home for the Disabled in Bali Township. The project brought together professional teachers and therapists from different fields and developed special education-related software and hardware, which provides more interesting teaching materials and workshops for special education.
4.iHealth Taiwan (Johnny Wang):
Pharmacists make personal home delivery of drugs 24-hour a day to solve the following problems: lack of pharmacies in smaller townships and rural areas; inadequate medical and healthcare resources; and drug safety issues. Serves over 22% of nursing homes for the elderly and psychiatric institutions in Taiwan; there are 10 teams of pharmacists (30 total), covering the entire west coast of Taiwan (future plans include expanding to the east coast).
Follow-up plans of ELIV members:
The social significance of [Share Pack] lies in "zero wasted food" and "promoting employment of members of disadvantaged groups." Simply put: We want consumers to have access to healthy and delicious bread while being able to contribute to the public interest in their everyday consumption, which will give members of disadvantaged groups the opportunity to change their lives by selling baked goods. For example, this time when our group of mothers deliver bread to our customers, they are able to keep 30% of proceeds as income.
Co-working space and studios founded by young entrepreneurs
1.Changee: Four young graduates founded this co-working and creative space in 2012. Using the three core values of space, community and information as a point of departure, the studio provides both resources and flexibility. Regarding "space": within one and a half years of its founding, Changee expanded to four physical locations in Taipei; services include: A co-working space, a space for events and performances and a cafe for exhibitions and arts. Primary functions include: a variety of lectures, performances, gatherings, workshops and promotional activities.
2.Happen!: Co-working space studio founded by two young female NTU graduates who returned to Taichung from Taipei. These two young people, who love to collect old stories, came upon a house that was more than seven decades old - the Bai's Law Office. They intend to renovate the house and transform it into a venue in central Taiwan that fosters creativity, sharing of ideas and the realization of dreams.
3.Three Little Buildings: A micro-community creative exchange park located in Douliu City, Yunlin County. A team of students led by National Yunlin University of Science and Technology professors took up residence in this group of three red-brick houses and a bomb shelter (formerly a civil defense control center), giving these buildings new life as a co-working and creative space for young people. At the same time, the team employs the theme of a "small plot of land, small people and small satisfaction" to establish a local marketplace for farmers - Three Small Marketplaces - and to promote sales of locally grown agricultural products, dispense agricultural knowledge and provide farmland adoption services.
4.Maker Bar: Co-working space for digital creations founded by a team from TEDxTaipei at Jinshan No. 9 building (part of an urban renewal project to be carried out in two years). Hardware and software innovators enthusiastic about digital creations and with experimental spirit gather here. The venue provides digital equipment, such as 3D printers and laser cutters. Both domestic and international events for community sharing and exchanges as well as teaching and promotional activities are held regularly.
5."hun": This is the oldest private co-working space (with cafe) in Taiwan. To establish networks and enable easier and closer sharing and exchange, a "membership system" has been designed and the five-stage concept of "work partners" has been introduced to the public.
