Yongan District of Kaohsiung City is one of the most important villages for grouper fishery in Taiwan. In 2016, an overwhelming cold snap almost destroyed the 3 years of hard work of the local fishermen. At that time, many second-generation fishermen who had been working outside of the village returned to rebuild the village, and then around 10 stayed behind. The crisis in the fishing village created another wave of industry revival in the community.

Located in the most beautiful Duoliang Station, Sunrise Driftwood Workshop was originally started by driftwood artworks. Later on, it established a team, expanded through the Ministry of Labor's Program, and then be popular with Duoliang Station. However, it faced major business challenges during the COVID-19 epidemic and was determined to expand its business ambition toward the third stage of transformation.

In the past decade, experts claimed that brown sugar has more nutrition so that made it more popular than before. This also triggered Baoshan Township of Hsinchu County was known as the “Hometown of Brown Sugar” since the Japanese Colonial Rule period to rehabilitate the sugarcane fields and recreate the brown sugar business. A semi-outsider couple, one of them has been persistent in research and development, another has adopted the best practice of the business knowledge, they have been working together by doing to create a living way for the community.

Yingshi Community is located at the foot of the Taiping Mountain in Datong Township, Yilan County. It’s the main pathway from Northern Cross-Island Highway to Central Cross-Island Highway with about a population of 300 people. Yingshi Community Development Association was established in 1995 and has been transformed recently by a return-home technician. He leads the Association to link the Primary industry agricultural products and Secondary industry micro-processing and then leveraged the Tertiary industry of tribal tourism. This has not only revitalized the local industry, created local employment but also restored the honorable identity and self-confidence of the tribesmen.

In recent years, Taiwan has promoted Regional Revitalization. The clearest mission is to resolve the population and employment problems. The solving key is to find out a sustainable business model. In 2021, after 26 years of operation, Dayou Community Development Association in Changhua Puyan Township finally no need to rely on the subsidies from the Ministry of Labor but its own business model to take the community into the next chapter.

In recently years, we heard elderly meal delivery and day care services in Taiwan’s rural communities, but Long-Yan-Lin Welfare Association had been doing these services for 22 years. It insists on “Locals take care of locals”, promotes middle-aged and elderly employment, and leverages local agricultural resources then returns the surplus to the social welfare. It also takes care of the elderly people for those young people who left hometown to work and creates an “Aging in Place” happy community.
