In Guantian, Tainan, farmers often piled up water caltrop shells along the field ridges after the autumn and winter harvest. In the early days, without the environmental awareness, those wasted shells were often secretly burned, producing thick smoke that damaged the air and soil year after year. So far, those wasted black water caltrop shells had disappeared from the field ridges since they had become charcoals, the famous "Black Gold," a biochar that can purify air and improve soils. There is a settlement space—"Daqi Creative Art Base," which is full of art and creative atmospheres at Daqi Village in Guantian District, Tainan City. The Base was once an idle space in the village. After 14 years of transformation, combining art, design, and education driven by the Taiwan Urban and Rural Art-Agricultural Practice Association led by Mr. Lin Jian-rui, it has gradually become a social innovation model with three missions in social design, business management, and local revitalization.
